Photography has always been the best way to release your creativity by capturing a moment in time. Rogu Kingston puts it like this, ‘A camera is the save button for the mind’s eye.’ In today’s Instagram savvy world, where there is a flurry of creative photos, it takes some serious talent to stand out. Meet Nitin Kumar, a photographer with a passion for wildlife photography whose story has a ‘negative’ beginning.
How did you discover your talent?
It all started in our family trip when I was handed over a Kodak camera with rolls. I was 11 or 12 at that time.I was told to be careful and not waste the rolls. I didn’t even know anything about framing but when I took some pictures they turned out to be good. My dad who was skeptical about me taking the photos became more confident about the same. Everything that followed after is exposed in those rolls. When I was 17 I uploaded some photos on Facebook and got decent appreciation from some photographers. This gave me the push required to take develop this skill further.
Does it go with what you are doing in life?
I was reluctant about the same until I got a chance to click photos in a Bharatanatyam function which was held in Vadapalani Murugan temple in Chennai. It was the day I decided no matter what, I am gonna fit it into my life, even if I have to do it with some duct tapes. Now, wherever I go, my camera goes with me and upload the photos on my Instagram Handle.
Where do you plan to go with your talent?
I want to go places, places all around the world. I want to explore things about the nature and wildlife. I want to see the nature with my eyes and the eyes of my camera. Finally, I want to show people everything I have seen and in the same unique way in which I have captured it.
So, what is your message to others who might be inspired by you?
Your talent for something is revealed to you in an unexpected moment and it is often disguised as coincidence or accident. When that happens never ignore your instinct because it has come to stay long. Embrace it and nourish till the day it grows to be a burning desire. To put it out in the world use social media. I suggest it because it had helped me a lot and it may help you as well. One fine day, the world will know who you are!
